In defence of cricket equalityAs we stood in the soft drizzle of the cold light of day at the Members Gate of the SCG on the first day of the Test, I was pleased to see our Minister of Defence, John Faulkner, lined up with the rest, as he has done for some years, to take his chances in the "Paddington Gift" to secure a favoured seat. There is something most egalitarian and very Australian about this. I wonder how many ministers of other nations would choose this option.Jon Travers MollymookBad for the gameNo, Ross Allan, you are not alone (Letters, January 8). I'm sure there are plenty of people disappointed by Australia's win in the Sydney Test. There are those who value the game of cricket more than the success of their home team, and therefore support good, even contests with a mix of results; those who are a little tired of the arrogance displayed by the Australian team over the past 10 years or so, and who long to see them taken down a peg or two; and those who would just like to see a team from a relatively poor, strife-torn country such as Pakistan crack it occasionally.Brad Stafford Hurlstone ParkFairer sexLet me get this right. Men who do an extra 43 hours of housework a week get a "reward" of an extra 0.28 incidences of sex a week - 15 more a year ("Men who share the load clean up in the bedroom", January 8). About as rewarding as eating lobster.David Moffet WarraweeDamn you, Don Easter (Letters, January 8). Just when I had finished laminating the housework-equals-sex article and hanging it prominently on the fridge door at eye level, my husband had to go and read your letter.Margaret Allan-Elgood EastwoodRing the changesI am still in a state of Telstra shock (Letters, January 8). I phoned them up one day and talked to a pleasant lady who told me a technician would call the next day. And he did.Eric Pearce CollaroyChristmas pastPerhaps a clue for the answer to Barry Lamb's query about the official end of the Christmas season is in the catalogue distributed by Coles for the week beginning January 7. It features hot cross buns.Diane Turner BowralTop gearUntil I saw the cover of Drive Life I didn't realise the Queen had found it necessary to take up photographic modelling to supplement her income.Annie Marshall Helensburgh
